    shimano curado problem

I'm having problems with my shimano curado. I'm having trouble casting any distance with it every now and then in the middle of a casting session the lure will only travel a very short distance and the reel just slows down and stops. After about ten "short" casts the problem dissapears and the reel is okay. The curado is a bait caster reel and I have it spooled with 20lb fireline. The reel has been a fantastic reel and is about five years old and would have made thousands of trouble free casts. It may be time to have it serviced by a proffesional as it seems to me that it may be a bearing problem. Has anyone had a similar problem?

    G'day beetle.
I've had one for yonks and they do wear a bit in the gear area.
You problem sounds like it needs a service and most likely a bearing replacement since it is intermittant.
if it was constantly stiff, it would be lubrication problem (lack of or too much).

    just a guess though.

I'd drop it in for a service and see how it gets on after that.

    good luck!

    Cheers, NS

Thanks Slates, it has been a great reel and as you say it probably needs a good service. I'll take it down to the tackle shop this week.

    Beatle ,

The newer Shimano reels feature ARbearings , if you use your Curado in saltwater application , it may be worthwhile to pay extra to change the bearing ( if required ) to these ARB version although they are quite expensive when compared to the old type .

Thanks Jonli- I might look at replacing the old bearings with the AR bearings as I want to keep the reel for a while yet.
