I've often wondered why us fishermen (and women) don't buy wiltshire staysharp knives that come in its own sharpening sheath......surely its the best way to keep a knife sharp??? Anyone use one?

Go to Kmart & buy the $20 knife kit, 3 or 4 ok knives. Run them over the grinder & put them in your kit. If you drop one over the side, oh well.

Just picked up a pair of tramontina blades off ebay. A 335mm filleting knife and a 280mm skinning knife that is just the right shape for cubing pillies and other dilectibles to entice the fish. Blades non staining high carbon steel, very sharp, holds an good edge 55hrc, for $40.00 delivered in 3 days from a suppler in WA...lovely knives and well priced in comparison to a buck filleting knife that retails for nearly $50.00

I have a set of the knives you bought off ebay. I got mine for $10 each from the local tackle shop.

they are excellent knives and hold their edge well

Swibo and Victorinox are good blades in the cheaper range. If you want a really nice filleting knife though, Global knives are a joy to use. Look at your local King of Knives.

Wiltshire used to make a staysharp fishing knife many years ago, had one for years. By the time it was shagged I had learnt to sharpen a knife properly myself, I now go for a nice soft steel knife, easy to keep sharp with a few slicks of the steel between fish.

1 major rule in the kitchen at my place,,,,,,,,,,,don"t touch me knives,,,,,,,,

even mrs choppa got into serious trouble a while back when she placed 1 of the Global Knives in the dishwasher to clean it,,,,,,

my personal preference is Global (expensive,,,but absolute quality,) followed by Balance Imperial,,, (bloody expensive,,,, and handy when you run out of razors )
    can it get any better??????????????,,,,,,,,,,,,,,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgG_TxEPaQE
