TLD20 with a matching 6' 10-15 kg overhead stick. There are plenty of choices available in rods. Live fibre is popular with some, but I find them a bit soft. Reels are well under $150 and you should be able to get a good rod for under $200. I had custom rods built on pac comp blanks for under $200. Use 10 kg mono which is plenty for all but the biggest blues and hoos you will ever encounter. The stretch in mono is as asset, not a liability.

Apathy is the enemy
That's the best answer you'll get. I agree totally with Jeremy's recommendation (though I might opt for a 7ft stick). The prepackaged combos are probably the cheapest way to go and you should look around for the best deal. Should be able to get a combo around $280 or less. Most of them have 6ft or 6'6'' sticks with them.

PS - Having said that, Sundown Marine have a special on the tyrnos and could probably come up with a good combo price less than $100 more than the TLD combo.(see the thread "Rod to match Tyrnos 20")
