Good won't break the bank line probably best suited for an overhead reel
sorry double post
yeah that's what i got, its an abu garcia 6600C4 overhead combo. the roll has 600m of line. what should i fil my spool up to, i've heard of filling it up to 3/4 of it's full capacity, what do you guys think.

I don't mind the Mariner line either since I have no trouble with it at all, but the 10X is superior to the normal mono.
A trilene knot tied to a hook with 10X line and very firmly tightened is damn scary in its knot strength....not kidding about that. Yep...trilene knot is super-duper strong with this line. Although, if you tie hooks (with trilene knots) on two ends of a cut of 10X and pull the hooks apart using pliers, it is rare for this particular line (the 10X) to bust. Usually one of the knots will bust. This means it's a pretty tough line. If you did the same trick on the cheaper Penn Mariner line, it is not unusual for the line to bust and the knots remain intact.....that's what I've been observing when testing these lines at home. The Mariner is good, but not as good as 10X because the fabrication processes are different (I believe). I tested 15lb Mariner and 15lb 10X. And also got 20 lb 10X.
If it has line guide on the reel fill it up
what is th eline guid. is it the place where the line goes off the reel and through the loop type thing out and throgh the eyes.
Yeah....I think so. That's the thing with the two vertical bits of wire, where the line goes between as it feeds out of the reel, and it moves from side to side when you wind the reel.Originally Posted by Jono757
ye thats it. so fill the reel pretty much right up.
Line guide when you turn your handle on your reel the line guide moves across from one side to the other at the front of your reel placing your line on your spool evenly.
don't go over the top of the spool just to the top
ive heard the the penn 10X is good stuff, my gf uses the end of a spool one of her friends gave her to make necklaces with, seems pretty tough when i was practicing my knots with it a while ago.
as for filling the abu, when i bought my 5600c4 a few weeks ago it said in the instructions to fill it to within 1.5mm of the lip of the spool for best results.
A line guide is also called level wind![]()
I usually fill it to a level of a 1 or 2 mm below the top. That should be ok. You don't want to under-fill your spool, or else casting distance might be compromised.Originally Posted by Jono757
i just put the line on the spool and man is it a pain in the arse. i got it on and it kept making loops while tring to wind it on. when i pulled the by the drag to fix the loops it has signs of abrasion on the line from rubbing on it. looks alright and i will have to try it out this weekend or something like that.
did you have enough tension on the line while loading the spool? i had no problems at all loading the spool of my 5600 running the line through two fingers on my left hand while winding it on.
