Vanish

Quick trip to BCF the other day,noticed that u can get vanish line & vanish leader.My question is,Are they the same ?Can u use the vanish line as a leader?or is the vanish leader the way to go? They told me that there the same.From memory u get alot more line than leader for your money! Im confused,i know the ausfisher will see me right! cheers Dinky

Could be wrong but I would think the vanish would be the same material, but not a bad marketing ploy, Get less for more.

I have been using vanish (in line length spools) for all my leaders for a number of years and find it very good, It is stored in the bottom of my tackle box so it is not exposed to sunlight, at this point it seems not to have deteriated.

looking around the fishing tackle shelves there are more spools of so called leader material appearing, I would think that a lot of the cheaper unknown brand names would be coming from the same mono line manufacturer off shore and being packaged as this or that.

I too use the regular vanish line as leader for days when the current only moves slightly. I reef fish in Darwin and have caught golden snapper (fingermark) and tusk fish upto 5 kg on it without bad wear and tear, BUT I suggest replacing the leader if you get snagged or catch a fish and it feels like it has small cuts in it. It certainly gets more bites than the 9 kg 20 kg 30 kg penn x10 when the water is clear. Can't go past the penn 30 kg for jewfish leader though!

I've always wondered this myself also, the leader spools are alot less and cost more

Gday mate,

did you check the line diameter for the different line rating......i might have been daydreaming when I saw in BCF (its heaven in there) but the vanish line in the same line rating as the vanish leader (eg 8lb) had a thinner line diameter ie less abrasion resistant
correct me if i am wrong......
