    Silver Texalium Rods

Has anyone got any criticisms both positive or negative on these rods.

yeah... they're really expensive (and don't perform appreciably better than the normal live fibres)

I'm only comparing performance in terms of livebaiting outfits (15kg+) not sure if theres a difference in performance in terms of casting

    Re: Silver Texalium Rods

I recomend live fibres to lots of people when looking at a new outfit for a reasonable price, but in saying that the texaliums i dont recomend.
There much the same blanks as the standard rods with the addition of a eye catching woven base of material that does vertually nothing to add to the rods performance. The price range of these rods puts them into another league above that of the standard live fibres where performance and quality are a must.
Its here where they come unstuck, you only have to look as far as the cheap runners, there not even FUJI's but a chinese copy! Enough said...

I've had a 10-15kg OH. Did one trip and snapped it where the woven piece started. Sent it back and got the standard one. Have got 6 or more standard ones and never looked like breaking one of them.

Only having played with them in the shop, I've found them softer than their original Live Fibre brothers. Anyone else found that?

I tend to agree with Foxy although I have no hard evidence. My mate recently bought one and it definitely looks prettier than my regular Live Fibre 8-15 outfit but I'll back mine any day of the week. Not sure what he paid for it, but I had recommended the regular outfit and the tackle store owner must have convinced him to "upgrade" FWIW, having said that, he nailed a 12kg AJ with it no probs the other week.

    Cheers

most live fibre rods have pacific bay guides with the exception of the lightning series and some of the texalium range. I am not a fan of the texalium's. to me it feel's like they've taken a half decent rod and wrapped aluminium around the guts and given it a weak spot. some of the heavier outfits are ok but i wouldn't touch the light spin sticks or baitcasters. money better spent on a custom imo

    Re: Silver Texalium Rods

Just checked out the L.Wilson website, say's Fuji components used in Texalium's.
I have two of these rods, 8-15kg & 15-24kg and like them heaps.
The guides don't have Fuji written on them but the name could be under the bindings.
Never heard of any compliants but they are $$$$.

    Re: Silver Texalium Rods

For the price go custom!!!! The last three rods i've purchased have been custom made and i couldn't be happier, they were all built for me with a specific goal in mind and they perform that roll admirably!!!! Texaliums are big bucks for little bang

    Re: Silver Texalium Rods

I am not too worried about the value for money as I can get a couple cheap.
I was more interested in their performance, durability etc.

I wasn't impressed by the action of the 4kg spin stick but I thought the baitcaster range felt good as did the 8-15kg stick as well.

Thanks for the advice although. My other thoughts were with T-curves. What is the opinion of these v Texaliums?

Barradise, the easiest way to tell the fuji guides apart from the name on them is by taking a look at the inside of the runner, (the spot that the line touches) fuji's are rounded all the way, whereas copies have a slight flat area. I'd say that wilson are refering to some other component on the rod, maybe a reel seat or butt stop. There deffently not refering to the guides...foxy

    Re: Silver Texalium Rods

Texalium rods are in fact sprayed with a hot alloy before having the paper stuck on then rolled up for sale. The alloy affect offers no function at all other than appearance. The cloth used is on these rods isn’t ideal either because it’s simply way too thick for the diameter blank it’s used on. Texalium has been around for many years, but to use it on a rod blank is a bit far out if you ask me. It doesn’t surprise me that blanks have snapped at the end of this material. It doesn’t bend freely, nor does is a good material to role. In fact it’s like wrapping stiff cardboard around a small pen. It’s a shame because companies are trying so hard to come up with some thing new that they are going the simple route and making rods based on looks rather than sound design.
