    matching rod with reel

    Hi all,

I just bought a couple of rods and reels and was just wondering if they were compatible. bought a shimano GTS baitcaster rod and a jarvis walker spinning rod.

my concern here is the baitcaster rod. see, I bought some spinning reels and then I realised the rod I bought earlier was a baitcaster so wanted to know if I could use a spining reel on a baitcaster rod. I also noticed that the rings on the rod weren't as big as the regular ones as in the first ring from the bottom is usually significantly bigger as compared to the rest of the rings on the rod but on this baitcasting rod I have, the first ring isn't that much bigger than the rest of them. is this alright? will there be a problem in casting? i haven't dry-casted cos i don't have the space and haven't got time to get out.

I have no idea how to use a baitcast reel so hopefully someone will tell me I can use a spinning reel on this baitcasting rod.

    thanks all

    Re: matching rod with reel

you can do it, but it ain't gunna be nearly as nice as a properly matched spin rod.
