    Re: Experienced rod builders....??

Was going to throw in my two cents worth, but my mentor Volvo has, not surprisingly given you the correct info.

One thing that wasn't mentioned was filler/preserver. Don't forget to use it.

Another thing I should mention, if you are going to use black thread, stick with the one brand.

    Good luck with it

    Masterdusky
    Here some info for you
A thread is used for rods up to 15kg , C thread is used for rods 15kg to 30kg
and D thread is used for 37kg to 60kg .
To day we use A thread for 1kg to 24kg after that we used D thread for 37kg and 60kg.
The Gold guides are call " Gold Cermet "and will put a real dent in bank book
So the one you can use are call " Alconite " they work for most types of light rods say up to 15kg . and are top grade guide
If you would like any more info just post it and I will see If I can help you out

White-night is right; however I don’t quite use the same size threads as what he does for those given rods. I mix and match thread to get the desired effect I’m looking for, not to bulky and not to stream line. I.e. if you try to use A thread on a stand up 37kg then, yes it will look nice and flowing but it won’t last two long. A thread is great for rods up to 15kg; I then use C thread for every thing after that including most chair rods. Once I hit the real heavy chair rods, let’s say 130 to unlimited, then I use D thread as my over bind. I don’t think too many here would be building chair rods, in which case you shouldn’t even own a spool of D thread. You should have A and C thread and that’s pretty much it, that will cover you for most all rods you may build for your local area.
