youve probly already checked this but if the spool tension is screwed up real tight it will be stiffer to wind or if the cast control weights are set heavy the spool will be slower..
A mate has bought a second hand Calcutta 400 identical to mine. Mine was in the cupboard for 4 years before finally being used. His is in absolutely pristine condition, is a genuine article and has been supposedly used once which i believe as it is in new condition. The only thing is that it seems a bit stiffer to wind than mine, not as free flowing. There's no dents or marks at al basically. It's definitely not as loose as mine and mine has only been lightly used too.
Any idea's? We are spooling it Saturday.

After 4 years , the grease may have become dry somewhat , just get rid of the dried old grease and re-lubricate the internals with new grease + oil the bearings , the reel should be smooth again .

It's not what you don't know that gets you into trouble , it's what you know for sure that ain't so .

Thanking you kindly guys. I will check all your suggestions pronto.
Use a teflon based lubricant on the bearings and silicon grease on the gears.Failing that upgrade bearings to abec 5 or 7. Miniture Bearing Supplys in Brisbane will have anything you want at the right price.

Yeah sounds like the bearings, clean with shelite and re-lube.
