My new rig
I just picked up my new rig for chucking 10-30 gram slugs and softies for pelagics and had to show it off.
Reel; 4000 sustain spooled with 300yrds of 15lb tuffline
Rod; Loomis gl2 sjr941. 7'10" 10-17lb spin

Beautiful combo, bet you can't wait to get out on the water with it. Just out of instance, what made you chose the tuffline? Also, are you leaving it as a right hand wind?

fafnir
I choose tuffline for a couple of reasons. Firstly because of its thickness. 15lb is only .16mm compared to about .18 for many other braids. I have used it before and am happy with its knot strength and abraion resistance. It also comes in 300yrd spools.
Yes i changed it over to right hand wind because i am right handed. I feel that my left hand lacks the speed and coordination for flat speed cranking. Also the extra half a second required to swap hands over after casting gives you a chance to make sure everything is straight before you start cranking (i change hands over before the slug has landed anyway). i'm just itching for some good weather to go fishing now.

Re: My new rig
Nice outfit
I would imagine it would make a great rig to try and stop some of those unstoppables that keep eating my jigs when chasing Squire.

Re: My new rig
Just got a chance to test it this arvo and it sends a 20gram slug into next week. I went down to an open section of bank at my local creek and was using the schools of mullet as casting targets. i saw a shool pop up of in the distance and i asked myself a wonder if i could reach that. It sent the slug about 10 metres over there heads. It's a good feeling to know this season i'll be well and truely able to keep up with the other blokes in the boat.
Yeh neil it would make a good heavier softies outfit. The extra bit of length however might make it a little hard to control the fish. Hopefully i'll find out shortly.

Re: My new rig
The rod reel and line retails for about $830, but i got it a fair bit cheaper because i happen to work in a tackle store about $640 (call it compensation for getting paid sh!t all). Come on sunday i just need it to fine up a bit more. I might give the river a hit if push comes to shove
