    Knots for leaders

Went up to the beach at Bribie to try out rod and reel for using"slider" slugs today. They cast great but I had a problem with the joiner knot for the leader. Was using 8lb main line with 14lb leader. Most casts were ok but twice the knot caught on runners (I think that was the problem) and the leader broke . I then used just the main line and on one cast the line caught on my release finger.Total 3 sliders lost. I used uni-knot/hangman noose join and it was pulled tight. Anyone give suggestions why it would catch on runners. All three cast that I had trouble with I was going for extra distance.

    What weight were the sliders?

Albright Join works for me. Tough, runs through the guides well, increases casting distance. Has never failed for me.

a lot of the time you just need to trim your knots a bit closer, if you're concerned they will let go then put a dollop of super glue on the knot, spit on your fingers & roll knot & glue into a football shape. this will make knot go smoothly through the guides.
two schools of thought as to snap offs, some believe that by line loops around leg of guide & breaks, they turn guide around & put it on backwards to stop problem.
other school is. that a loop of loose line catches on the tag end of knot & pulls loose loop up through guides with knot until it comes tight & snapping. i subscribe to second theory. lost a lot of lures over the years before this was pointed out by a man with a lot of experience, when i started looking, a lot of the time there was a loop of line up through the guides. have rarely lost one since using the glue method.

    Try this one....

Smallest leader knot I've seen! Also Geoff Wilson claims its the strongest knot he knows to tie a mono leader to braid...

TT and Fishing Dan thanks for the info on knots. Will give them a go.

DR the use of super glue sounds interesting. I will give it a go as well and let you know the results. What you stated about the line looping sounds right as when I had the breakoffs I was putting a little more oomph into the cast.
