    Re: JewieHook

This is what I use when fishing worms for jew from the beach.
Snood three 7/0 Mustad Penetrators about 6 cm apart, on a suitable trace, I use 50lb Platy platinum.
Hope you can visualise the finished set-up, as I can't post a diagram, too computer ignorant!
Basically, three hooks set up on the trace sitting 6cm apart. I then wrap/thread a bunch of live or preserved worms onto, over and around these hooks to create a 'bunch'. If using live worms, a little care is needed when casting, as they can turn 'brittle', resulting in half your bait ending up as berley if you belt the rig out too hard!
A friend uses a different approach, a single large worm hook, about 5/0 is the largest I've seen from memory, twas a red Mustad job I think.
He threads a whole large worm up over the eye by about 10cm and lets the rest dangle below the hook.
Personally I prefer my rig, but his is successful as well.
I don't like using worms that are too fresh, they are far easier to thread up if they are half dead. Worms preserved in metho are my favs, they are tough and easy to use and the jew bite them just the same.
Having said all this, even though I'm proficient at worm capture, I prefer to use whole fresh or freshly frozen squid for jew, I enjoy eating the tailor by-catch!
Cheers, hope this lot is of some use!
