had the pleasure of taking Daimen Grieve (penn jw rep) for a social fish yesterday with my good mate Brett Sheen up hayes inlet . Daimen brought along a new toy to play with a sexy little rovex ct500 low prowfile baitcaster spooled with 20lb suffix braid (bit of overkill i know ) and gave it to me for the mornings session .
i tied on a 1/8th tt jig head and slid on a 4" white gulp and proceeded to " get to know the reel" , at first i had the anti back lash wound up and the cast control on full but only after a few casts backed them both off and was casting as far as the other two with there affinity 1000's .
well let me say that something musta clicked because i had 5 legal lizards to 60cm before the boys had a hit , so i put the rod down and picked up my spin combo and after five mins put it back in the locker and picked up the baitcaster again (they had no hope of getting it off me )
can't wait to cast some big barra lures in sept at awonga on this set up around the shallow bays and see it connect to some leaping silver freight trains and test that smooth drag a bit more .
cheers swano
