Rusty trebles

Pulled out my jack lures the other night and what do you know, most of the trebles have gone to shit. I pulled all of them off and im not going to go and replace them all because the same thing will happen next year and i dont feel like spending $50-$60 every year on trebles. Ill just replace them as i need the lure. So if anyone has any ideas on how to keep your trebles in good nick for longer, they would be much apprecited. Also any recommendations on what trebles to replaces the old ones. Some feedback on some solid ,sharp hooks would be great.

Rinse your lures down with fresh water after use and give your lures and lure trays a good clean with warm soapy water before storing for extended periods. This is important as it is often the residual salt in the lure tray or other rusty hooks that will set others off. In light of that you may also wish to remove or replace rusty hooks before storing. Vegitable oil or deoderised fish oil will also help to displace water and reduce corrosion to your trebles. Finally to hooks. Not only are better quality hooks stronger and sharper but often have better corrosion resistance. VMC and Owner hooks are 2 stand outs. VMC's can be purchased in bulk boxes at chain stores keeping the cost down but the owners can be 1 or 2 dollars a treble (i only have owners on some of my favourite lures that get used the most)

I keep all my lures in the plastic tray boxes these days. After every trip, fill the box with warm soapy water, close lid and give a shake. Then rinse them off.
As jeremy said, VMC and owners. I only use owners on my barra lures these days for cost reasons. VMC will rarely let you down. Price not to bad by the box.

Take all your trebles off all of your lures, buy some packs of quality trebles in sizes needed, place split rings on 2-3 of each size treble, and as you change lures you also change the trebles over, take an extra minute and you only lose a treble or 2 at a time and that is mainly thru bent points, straightening ect, the other advantage is when you pick a lure out of your tackle box you get one and not the lot.

Just wash them before they go back with their mates and spray them with cooking oil

Thanks for the feedback fella's. I've tried the vegitable oil before but found it a bit messy. Thought someone might have an easier method but looks like i'll have to stick with it.

wash and dry then shake baby powder over them. takes away the moisture , and keeps them dry and rust free. hubby
