Looking at heading out after some marlin for the first time this comming summer and would like some advice on leader choice.Some diagrams would be good if you can please.Looking at going of the goldcoast if any advice about that to would be greatly appreciated.Thanks

the basic setup (I believe) is a 6 ft double and wind on leader (not sure of lenght) with ball bearing snap swivel. You can then clip on your lures which also have around 6 ft of leader, or live bait rigs or whatever you are using.

I am still pretty new at chasing marlin, but the set up I use for the small blacks and sails (on 10 and 15kg outfits) is to have my mainline straight onto a ball bearing snap swivel and then about 8 feet of 150lb jinkai leader to the lure.
The lenght of the leader needs to be at least as long as the biggest fish you think you will encounter. The idea is that you dont want the tail of the fish coming in contact wiith your mainline as it runs away from you - this wil result in a bust offYou can lessen the lenght of the main leader and go with a wind on leader as Jeremy stated, but I haven't really bothered with this, as the more heavy gauge line in the water, the more it ruins the action of your lure, therefore reducing your chance of a strike.
Everything is a trade off and in this case the trick is to balance the lenght and breaking stain of the leader against the size of fish while maintaing the action in the lure.
Also look at the lure manufacturers recomendation for leader breaking strains. Bigger lures can generally handle higher breaking strain leader of a longer lenght and still maintain their action. If you are chasing big blues out on the shelf, then you would definately need a wind on plus a heavy leader of 300lb or more.
