What are the sizes and brands to look for when upgrating my rings and trebbles on my barra lures, I'm will be fishing in impoundment, mainly in the timber trying to get these powerful fish out.

Been a few threads on this 4x owner trebles the strongest followed by 6x VMC.
Split ring at least size 6 Halco.
50LB Braid and 60 to 80lb leaders.
Check out a few of the previous threads in the freshwater section.

What lures in particular are you interested in upgrading split rings and trebles on?. Some people can get pretty pedantic with changing split rings on new lures that get made from very well known brands that already have quality rings and treb's on them.
50lb is ample, and anything above 60lb leader is overkill.
As Trev said, go check out the Freshwater section.

Owner ST-66's and the matching Owner split rings are the toughest on the market. No question.
most the guides in awoonga run 80lb leader minimum mr tinaroo and i would like to think that they know their shit
I go along with the 80lb leader at Awoonga and sometimes it still not enough. But thats fishing, some you win and release, other just get the early release with your gear in tow.

I agree they all seem to use 80lb leader at Faust.
Thats what i use and as Trev says you still get blown away at times, some you win some you lose.
That is fishing in the sticks, 50lb braid and 80lb leader although i have caught big barra in the open water on 20lb braid and 50lb leader no need to try and steer them away from structure.
Cheers,
John.
Won't argue that Mr Hill, they are the experts. Just stating what I use when im fishing... and it does the job ok. I am still yet to find a nice 80lb leader, that isnt so god dam stiff and knots nicely, any suggestions?. I am still yet to target Barra in timber area's, but will be doing so when I get the chance, and thats when I will beef my gear up a little.Originally Posted by matthill80
