    What prompts this thread, wayneoro?

A lot of industries suffer from a gold rush mentality as people rush in to either seize a new opportunity or try to emulate others until the micro-economics of the situation forces a consolidation of the industry into a handful of efficient players, the big ones making a good income and the smallest ones barely surviving.

Simple ethics really. Just make sure that you do what you do better than everyone else to guarrantee success. I know someone personally who has set up a business from home doing exactly that and his service, advice, expertise, willingness to part with his fishing knowledge, good prices are all contributing factors as to why I keep going back to him. I had an invite to go fishing last moment late one afternoon when all the shops were shut and I needed more jigheads so I emailed my friend and he sent a quick reply and was more than happy for me to take the drive after hours and buy some jigheads. His business is going ahead in leaps and bounds regardless of what competition is out there and how many people are doing the same thing.

Big service beats big shops any day!

Criteria for success is determined by many factors including demand vs supply and a hell of a lot of due diligence before embarking on the venture. If you can find a niche and apply exceptional service, you will succeed.

Good luck with it all fish_outta_water. Hope it all goes well for you. Sounds like you have the right attitude. If it doesn't work out you can use the gear. At least you gave it a shot.
