Egg Beater or Bait Caster/Overhead

Hi guys I have a question
I have always used spin reels and always fish places like the broad water rivers and canals on the gold coast for flat head can some one tell me the plus,es and minus of bait casters

Personally I prefer to use a spin reel for flathead. Casting light softies etc is easier (in my opinion). For heavier lures, baitcaster, all the way!!

Used baitcasters/overheads nearly all my fishing life but as Tony says, the plastics are so much easier to cast with a spinning reel that I'm now converted. Also use 'em when I'm fishing very light for bream. Heavy live/dead bait, then I use the overheads.

I have never mastered the art of casting an overhead/baitcaster and gave up in disgust after the worst bird's nest I have ever seen in my life. > Have stuck with egg beaters and go the Alvey sidecast when doing a spot of surf fishing.

I use alveys, baitcasters and spinning reels depending on location and what I'm casting.

When lure fishing, I usually have both a baitcaster and a spinning outfit.

Spinning outfits are great for very light / wind resistant lures.

However, I love using baitcasters.

Egg Beaters and Bait Casters are just fine for flathead. Sometimes I,ll use a 4/0 overhead for them, but when useing livebaits like potty mullet etc,
sometimes you can get hit by something bigger than you hoped for.
Ive payed the price befour and losted some big ones thinking theres just small flatys around.

They are certainly a different kettle of fish mate!! certainly harder to cast, wont cast as light lures and the wind affects your casting more. the eggbeaters - theyre totally adequate.if you havent got any patience dont bother with the overheads. a couple of pluses for overheads in my opinion are - no line twist , more control over your casting -more accuracy
more effecient retrieve - line doesnt go thru line guide at 90 degrees and the drive is more direct.
If you like a challenge go for it Rob - i love using them although im battling at the mom with the challenges of casting the lighter lures , although i havent been using them for long.

hard bodies- baitcaster, more accuracy, fast multiple casts, accuracy better.

Soft plastics- spin, lighter lures, more distance less accuracy.
