    Berkley Dropshot - Snapped Again.

    Hi all,

Just wondering if anybody else has had problems with the Berkley Dropshot Rods. This sunday I snapped my second rod in six months. The problem is this rod was two weeks old.

Is there a way I can claim something back, or what other rods for the same sort of money should I look for. I wasnt highsticking it or doing anything stupid with it. Just fishing normally.

Mate, I honestly shut and locked the car door completely on mine and it looked like a small sbend before I got it out, that was a couple of months ago and it's stopped 50+ cm flatties, ok bream and bass since then without any sign of a problem. It also lives in the boot of my car, I don't give it a lot of TLC and it hasn't let me down. Good rods IMHO.

Had mine for over 6 month now and I I go out maybe once a fortnight if not once a week. Still going strong. The only complant I have is there is no cork where my hand sits

if it is only a few weeks old take it back to where you bought it tell them it snapped under normal fishing conditions and you want your money back, may have been a bad blank. One of my mates works for one of the boating fishing and camping places and they had a few problems with the struddy sickstiks they have been refunding or replacing any that come back broken. Have a go tho dont throw your moey away by rights they have to refund if the product is faulty.

Easy enough to tell if the blank is faulty, there will be a noticable thin spot or dry matting in the blank wall at the failure,if this is not apparent you may be lucky to get a replacement, not saying you wont. The Dropshot is a good rod but the lighter models are very fragile and a knock in transport can result in a failure later on.

    I can't believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

only a few months ago the same thing happened to me and everyone bagged me saying how great the berkly dropshopts are, well I dont agree, I go mine replaced by pure fishing who were great and the very first time I took the replacement out it snapped.

I have had the same issue with a Shakespear Catara... Graphite blank.

I had to purchase the top half of the rod 3 times... $150!!!

And it was not maliciously treated!

All my other rods are in perfect condition...

If you are after a good quality and well priced rod... Check out the Trions or Raiders...

But I certainly suggest taking it back to the retailer!

Thanks for the info. I will take it back to the retailer to see how I go. Hopefully wont be a big issue.

there has been a lot of chat about the dropshots. Some luv 'em and some don't. My missus has a 1-3kg 2pc spin model that i folded in half (almost) on a 43 cm Mangrove jack that took my little flickbait. I don't know what everyone else looks for in a rod, but when it survives that sort of punishment.....I rate it fairly highly. There only IM6 graphite, so they have a bit more give than some others out there. The Shakespere Catera is IM8 so is stiffer and potentially more brittle.

If it doesn't suit your fishing style... try something else, It may not be a fault of the rod, Just a mismatch.
    Cheers, Roo.

I had a 15kg Saltwater dropshot snap in August (sharked on the way up). Still waiting for the warranty replacement. Told by tackle dealer that its very rare to not get a warranty replace but they do take their time.
Any fishing is good fishing (should probably say Any fishing is...probably going to be illegal soon)

Mat for around the $100 dollar mark I would invest in the new STARLO STICKS... look great and apparently perform really well, and they are SHIMANO so they must be good, but I am a litte biased...

I bought a 15-30kg salwater series drop shot jig rod, busted it first time I put a bend in it...changed it for a silstar crytal blue heavy jig rod and its unbreakable. cheers Ben

I have a 6kg dropshot rod I use with an eggbeater and braid for big jew and it has been okay since I bought it 12 months ago. Gonna take it up to open areas in the QLD barra dams shortly and see if it will break. cheers, steve.
