good rod/reel combo for snapper/macks/tuna

hey guys,

I have read the other thread going on the good mackeral reel but it all seems to be focused on the TSS4.

I am after a new rod/reel combo (under $300) which I will target snapper, tuna, mackeral, etc on close reefs from a kayak.
can anyone make any recommendations as to what i need. I intend to use SPs, HBs, bait and troll livies.

I see a lot mentinoed about the TSS4 but what about the BTR6500 ??? wouldnt this be a much better reel for this aplpication?

also what about overheads, I was thinking perhaps an abu 7500 or something in the shimano, penn range

any advice is much appreciated

Mate anything with a solid drag system will do the job, and as for the rod, well something with plenty of strength in the lower section of the rod, but something versatile as well, Daiwai bring out a very versatile stick wich is rated for 10 - 40 lb... Cant remember the name but its a fantastic stick and only $160... I'd look into those...

Youve just got to get a Shimano mate !! dont u know theyre the only reel out there especially the tss4 or whatever its called all the guys are raving about them - bullit proof indestructable will handle 10 foot sharks et al no problem and come back for more - and surely the only reel that will handle the abuse use in a kayak will give it!! try also an alvey Ive heard they last quite a while and take heaps of stick!

For all that type of fishing you want to do with one combo and from a yak. If it was my choice, I would go for the tss4. I know on sale sale you can pick one up for $130 compared with the BTR6500 Which goes for around $180.
With the high speed retrive of the tss4 this reel would be better suited for such speices as mac's & tuna ( flicking metal slugs) Also you would have no prob using SP's and towing HB's.

With the price difference between the two reel's you would have more money to spend on a rod. You should be able to pick yourself up a Live Fibre in the 8 to 10kg or 10 to 15kg.
