    REALLY LIGHT TACKLE

i have just bought a 1.98m Daiwa Procyon pc z rod, line weight is 2-6lb. the rod is as thin as a pencil. the reel on it is a Shimano Symetre 1500 spinning reel with 4lb braid.
just wonder what fish should i chase with lure.
bream? small GT? what about pike, etc
    landbased, by the way

Depends on where you're fishing. I think you'd have a hell of a time getting big bream or trevally in near structure, but in open water you'll be able to pick up pike, bream, flathead and trevally. Just get yourself a decent leader of 10 or 12 pound to make sure you don't get rubbed or bitten off too easily.

i am just afraid of the rod. it is so thin... seems to be broken easily.
that is the lightest rod i could ever found here, so worried about it.

    Hi Kevin,

Your gear sounds pretty similar to what some guys over here use to catch yellow perch. They are very similar to Australia's redfin perch. If you have them in your area, you could have some fun with your ultra-lite gear.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: REALLY LIGHT TACKLE

If the rod's rated to 6lb then that's the heaviest line you should run on it mate. As long as you don't exceed that, you should be fine. Does the rod have a warranty? As long as you're fishing within the stated line class, I couldn't see them having an issue with you bringing it back if something went wrong. Just be careful with fireline, what they say is 6lb is actually a fair bit stronger.

    Re: REALLY LIGHT TACKLE

AS the guys said above pick the correct line class and you'll be fine. If you take your time on the fish mate the rod wont break. 2-6lb is what alot of blokes use for breaming, so jsut have a well set drag and dont rush the fish. Heaps of fun when you do get them on the light gear aswell so good luck.

    Re: REALLY LIGHT TACKLE

First of all - Nice setup!

You'll be fine with that setup chasing Bream. You will get Pike, Flatties and small GT's as well. It will handle them fine.

DON'T highstick the rod though!!! That will break it quicker than anything.

Also, try not to knock, bang, etc the graphite rods. It may not break now, but in the future can appear to break for no reason when it's been weakened more over time from the initial bang. I discovered this the hard way, and lost a nice fish due to it

But as the others have said, take it a little easier on them, and you'll get them fine. That 4lb will be perfect for it. Match it to some 6lb Flourocarbon leader, and you'll land most things.
