    G'day
Greg, will you be trolling or floatlining or cast and retrieve?

    Re: chasing mackeral

    G'day
Cast and retieve alotof people use an 8 or 9' live fibre spin stick, about the 6-8kg mark with a Tss4 and 20lb mono.

I floatline and use an 8kg 6' rod and 6500 shimano baitrunner with 20lb mono. This runs into a swivel with a waterbaloon tied to the mainline for boyancy. Down to black swivel and a metre or more of 50lb mono, then a flight of 3 4/0 gamagatsu gangsters attached with small shogun swivels.

That floatlining rig has always worked well for me when drifting casting plastics over the reefs.

Use 20 gram halco slices with tss4 reel. If you don't get the speed, you won't get the fish. Also floated baits, but don't use wire traces, coz they won't touch your bait.
