    Purchasing Rod overseas

    Hi,

I have been looking at purchasing a G Loomis rod. The price of the rod I like is $500.00 at the local tackle store.

I had a look at the net and I found the same rod priced at USD215, which equates to under AUD300.

I know one should be supporting local tackle shops, but the rod is made in the USA (imported) and I can save $200.00.

I am seeking members comments on what the CONS would be for purchasing this Rod overseas (from a USA online dealer)?

Comments on postage, taxes and likely-hood that the item will arrive etc would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Shane

shouldn't be any tax or duty. I would shoot an email to the mob & ask them for a quote for shipping..then you will have your real price

the biggest problem is getting the thing here in one piece, I have seen a lot of overseas rods packed in tubes, still arrive in more pieces than they started in, also you will find that it will cost quite a bit more than just the US to AUS exchange rate, as a general rule of thumb, it needs to ge at least half price in US dollars to make it all worthwhile

I've Had 5 rods sent over with no problems .Freight varies from $26 US for a 3 piece to $104 for an 8 foot rod. DHL is the best followed by FEDEX. Hope this helps Graham
Ps; saved $500 AUS just on 1 rod.
