Rod and Reel for GC Seaway

    G'day,

I have recently started to get into fishing a bit, and have set myself up with a combo for soft plastics.

This is where the problem lies, now I want a combo that I can use for Bait Fishing in an area like the GC Seaway, will be off the wall as I don't have a boat.

Does anyone have any recommendations for rod size, weight, etc and reel?

    Any help would be great.

    Cheers,

    Geoff

Hi geoff . Maybe a 7" rod between 3-5 kg a spinnig reel in the 2500-4000 range . With say 10-14 lb line , should do the job . This would give you the option of both bait & sp's . Hope this helps .......

if ya fishing from the rocks. get yourself a surf rod and a 6000 series reel.or your gonna loose alot of line and sinkers. PS don't use braid , coz it will be a waste of money. Remember rocks have sharp edges and it's a long way down from the rock wall. A long road will asist you in recovering your line. I'm a boat convert so don't do land base anymore.

Yep gotta agree.... 12' beach rod and 6000+ series reel, I don't know what sort of $ you have to play with but if a bit on the tight side don't over look some of the cheaper combos around to start with till you get a feel for rock fishing. I have 12 rods that I bought as cheap combos 3 yrs ago, the reels have long since died but the rods are as strong as ever and have landed some very good fish over the years
Rainbow Trout is NOT skittle flavoured fish.........
