    Advice on Leaders Please

I currently have 3 reels spooled with 10KG Platypus, the line is new so its staying on. reels are all Okuma Overheads, used for trolling macs and bottom bashing snapper sweeties etc on the reefs

I have 100mts of Schneider 25kg. I was thinking of using this as a leader on the 3 reels with the 10kg Platypus on them.

Will the 25KG Schneider be Ok as a leader on the end of the pltypus? Or is it too big for a leader on them?
If its OK, would an Allbright knot be the best to join the 2 lines seeing as they are quite a bit of difference in strength? Or should I drop the leader down to a smaller line, say 40lb?

The Schneider spool isnt long enough to use on a reel itself, so as a leader would be useful, would be a shame to throw it away

    Would appreciate any comments/advice

    Thanks in anticipation

    G'day Mike

I'm sure that the Schneider would make very serviceable leader material. Im pretty sure that lots of people use it for preference. OneRabbit I think uses it. I reckon if you have 25kg. then thats what you should use. the improved albright is a good knot for joining lines of unequal diameter.

    Cheers Tony.

I like the schneider, i have it on a Penn 330GTi reel, and its greta.

Was just worried 25kg leader on 10kg main line was too heavy, but Ill give it a go next trip out.

no problems using 25 kg as leader for 10 kg mainline, but tie a bimini twist double in your mainline first. The bimini twist gives 100% knot strength while the albright does not. By using a bimini double, the loss of knot strength at the albright will not be an issue.

looks like i got me some knot practising to do, sit there watching a DVD while i tie......

tried the allbright yesterday, seemed to go ok, looks like the knot on animated knots, proof will be if it holds a fish i suppose. i will try tying the bimini tonigfht

    Thanks Jeremy
