I like the std black owners that come on the mask's/TN's, but find them very brittle. Very sticky, most hit's stay connected. But bend them once and then re-align them and that hook point usually snaps the next time under pressure. Small price to pay though, whack a new one on, happy days are here again. Hardb8, you're killin' me with the particular lure in you pic. As you know I am a massive fan of the mask's (your gonna have to change your name to softb8), and just bought a brand newy in the ghost blue gill like your's pictured. First cast with it this morning, one hop, nailed as it sat on the bottom on the pause. Serious bass screamed me and found the only bit of structure in the vicinity. Tried in vain to get him out from all angles, but the result was one shredded leader. No fish and no mask, OUCH >!!!.....And stop laughing Andrew, it's not funny!!!
And Nuggstar, I have never ripped a mask. Had their eyes smashed off 'em, but that don't stop 'em working. And don't know if you've heard, but there is such stuff as insect repellant .
Hey Tiges,
Softb8 eh LOL,The Ghost blue gill is a killer (Very natural lookin),It can be hard to find,But worth the effort.Have a go at the Iwashi pattern,I slap a gold blade on the back and it's real hard to beat .
I was also gettin the eyes ripped out of mine.Been rippin em off before using em,And puttin a drop of super glue on,Then puttin the eyes back in.Haven't lost any scince .As ya mention it dosen't effect catch rate with out em though.I just hate havin a blind lure LOL.
Ya spot on with ya description on the Owners to m8.Good hooks till they're bent then very fragile.
Cheers softb8
Yeh I'll keep my eye out for the Iwashi pattern, but will definitely replace the ghost blue gill. Will have to try attaching a small colorado blade as you've done. Often use the yo zuri tailspinners which are basically a silent lipless crank with a small willow blade, they work well. More length in profile doesn't hurt in some of the boney bream dominated impoundments. How do you go with them quads fouling? Cant imagine them being too much worse than a regular treble.
mmm we were fishing for bass if i remember...not that other bit of bycatch i believe the woofer cleaned up to take home biggest bag might have to break out the flt an really smah em next time
oh and something meaningful to add to the thread...i've noticed that the owners you buy here in packets are a heavier gauge than the ones that come standard on jackalls, TD's etc...not sure why? but suits me as the stock ones although sharp are a bit weak for my liking
