I used to use wire traces, till someone said get rid of them and use a heavy leader. Found that much better than wire traces

Sinker, never used them, either use unweighted pillies or lures.

Hooks, mine are all Mustad brand. Size 4/0 up to 10/0. Also have some Gamakatsu. ( is that spelt right?)

Lures are mostly halco, with a few other different brands and types, but mostly Halco. Line is use hawk or Platypus mono.

Buy the best you can afford, i learnt with cheap gear, you just get bust offs and dissappointment

    mostly gang of 3 x 4/0's and sometimes gang of 3 x 5/0 or 6/0's.

Single hooks when using livies, anything up to 10/0 depending on whats there when you are fishing

thats great, so i wont need any sinkers or swivels?

also what about those plastic squid/skirt things they put over the bait are they worth using.

sorry about all the questions, im new at this offshore game

Crimping pliers and wire would be a good idea if you are stocking up. We use wire when trolling lures or casting slugs for palagics. I am pretty new to that style fihing, but I know quite a few that specialise in them do use wire.

Ben, with the skirts, pink with 4 hook gang on stiff single wire. Leave a tag of wire on the top hook to put through the gars head. Fairly common rig. I'm no good with diagrams on here. I'm sure someone can help.

    This is for blues.

mate, if the current is running pretty hard a few sinkers wont hurt

Mate if you do use a swivel make it a black one, the brass one's only attrack strikes & will also stop line twist !!!

short length of single strand wire about 250mm single 2/0 to 4/0 may need sinker go light as possible, put as many white pillies bunched together hooked through the eye on the hook, burley hard and hang on.

terminal tackle is quite cheap really, why not get a good collection and a GOOD tackle box, then when you go, all your stuff is with you, and you can fish to suit the conditions you encounter, I always try to buy as much stuff as I can in bulk and keep it in a 'fishing" cupboard in the garage and just replenish when needed, if you look around every time you are shopping (even in a Supermarket ,and you know I do not like supermarkets) and pick up bits and pieces now and then you will be surprised what you will gather up, I always buy ball and bean sinkers in big bags and keep them "in stock" spools of various line sizes are cheap as chips and even the elcheapo brands will give you good service as most lines are cut off at times when fishing and need to be respooled quite regularly, so unless it is on a game reel or something I use the cheaper brands for everyday work.

20m of lead core rope with springa attatched to the boat and 2.5 m 200-300kg leader with a 30 cm wire trace to a gang hook rigged garfish. just troul over a good reef edge and wait till you see the springa going apeshit then ripthem in before the sharks can get them i have got over 50 macks in one arvo fishing like this on a commercial macky boat up north. it works good just not as sporting as on a rod

use like 300-500lb Black Magic leader or similar. (pro line mac fisho told me that) I found more strikes on the mono then wire traces. Ganged hooks, large swivel etc. Might even use a barrel sinker.... hope that helps
