Dave.
Hi guys,
I try to join 2 line together using uni to uni, 30lb braided mainline (8lb dia mono) ---->>>8lb Leader. Tested by putting both line and the leader side just break.
What have i done wrong???
Cheers
How many loops do you use on your uni knots (also what brand and type of leader are you using)?
For a connection like that one you would prob want 6-8 on each uni (loops around the other line). I find if you don't use a fair few, breaking strain goes down quite quickly with a 8lb leader.
Also remember to use lots of spit when tightening each uni and when you slide the two uni's together.

Do a search on the Stren knot. #Its basically a locked half blood knot in the braid against a uni in the mono. #Easy to tie and much stronger in my opinion.
Double Uni with at least 4 twists does the trick for me!!! I have spent weeks researching this and its a great knot that doesn't get caught in the guides....Like the guys say....try the animated knots section!!!
Tested heaps of knots and the double uni wins everytime, double last 10 inches of braid and i use 5 turns on both ends and another tip!!, i wipe both braid and leader with a little hand cream or sunscreen for lube.
By putting suncreen or other similar creams that off give odor, while also possible weakening the material, could possible deter the fish? I had a mate that would not let me use sunscreen while handling line or lures and always made me wash my hands in soapy water in fear of putting the fish off. It seems a little extreme but you get the picture. I think a good golly would be better, but hey we are different.
Not enough time in the day, to many spots to fish!
Net Surfer,
As well as the animated knots section on Ausfish, Geoff Wilson's complete book of fishing knots and rigs is well worth a look. Its available from just around everywhere that sells tackle and lists in detail just about every knot that you could ever need. Not sure of the current price, but its not that expensive, a good investment in my opinion.
My favourite is the Tony Jones Leader Knot. You can find it here:

I'm with gunna mate, the stren knot is an awesome knot for joining lines. I use this for joining braid to mono/fluorocarbon all the time. Like the boys said, make sure you lubricate the knot with spit before you tighten it.
