I always thought of platyl as a really tough line.
Hi
I currently have 15 Lb Schneider for my surf outfit, and am possibly looking to upgrade the breaking strain, because i use this outfit for rockfishing aswell.
i am considering changing to platypus classic 20 lb, which has the same diameter as the 15 lb schneider (.4mm).
However, because i fish off the rocks aswell, i would like anyones opinions of the "toughness" of Classic, or any other appropriate lines ,and how it compares to Schneider.
cheers
Owen
I always thought of platyl as a really tough line.
Penn 10x gives fantastic abrasion resistance for rock/coral fishing. I have found other mono's I have used don't cop abrasion very well, haven't used the two types that you mentioned so can't give an opinion on them.
Cheers Andy
if you want abrasion resistance in a mono line - the best is tortue followed by platy classic......just remember the compromise....they are stiff lines......ya cant hqve ya cake and eat it too.

Schneider is the best, but if you want to drop diameter, go the 10X as reef_fisher said.
I tried 90% of lines available. Penn 10X beats the others hands down in rough/ rocky situations. Low stretch too. Others will recommend other lines, coz that's what they tried and settled with. I didn't. I tried 'em all - and i got the bills to prove it.
Only thing with 10X is to tie good knots - it is less forgiving in this area, but there is always a trade-off.

Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. But ,flogging him into submission will result in him taking up crabbing.... and once he gets a taste of that sh*t, well, he may never return again.
Dont like 10x.I was using a spool of 20 lb for leader and lost 3 fish in a row.Threw the spool away and went back to berkley vanish and never lost another fish. Imo Graham
rest my case

Why do need to upgrade the 15? 15 to 20 is not much of a change, I would not bother (unless your existing is past it)
