Hi Fitzy!
Havent fished big W for a while.
Which launch/picnic areas have closed over the last year?
I heard Billies bay is now closed, is this true?
Cheers
George
Got another report from a mate today about Somerset fishing prettty slow for bass.
I was up there on Saturday & struggled to raise a scale. I put that down to me having a shocker (usual) but a few others are saying the same thing. One local bass gun up there on Saturday couldn't pull a bass. Found plenty of fish sitting in 55-60 feet of water in the river bed & very few on the flats & breaklines. Were shut down pretty tight tho. Weren't touching anything thrown at them on the day.
If the fish stay in these spots it could mean some classic winter schools.
The yellowbelly are still doing ok up in the river pasts the powerlines.
To contrast that, we did a fish release of 17 000 silver perch at Wivenhoe (Logans Inlet) last week & I just coudn't resist having a quick flick afterwards. Got a well conditioned bass (48 FL) first cast in a small stand of trees & got bricked twice in the next 5 minutes. Trolled up a couple of rats on the way back to the ramp. The fish there were sitting in 25-30 feet. Big difference between Big W & Somerset considering they are right next door to each other.

Fitzy..

Hi George,
Yep Billies Bay/Hayes Landing area is shut. Not happy about it but its not the end of the world. There's still stacks of great fishing coutry close to Hamon Cove & Logans Inlet. Its also about the same distance from Logans to Platypus as it was from Billies/Hayes, plus its more protected getting home when those arvo eaterlies get up in Summer.
We're changing the way we stock the lake to reflect the changes in access. We will be concentrating al fish releases in the Logans/Hamon area & plan to almost stop stocking silvers/yellas to be replaced by toga & cod.
Cheers,
Fitzy..
