Fraser 24th to 31st

Well first up I will say shit it can rain on fraser 7 inches in the first 3 days. Wet arse & no fish, not a good start to the yearly trip.Drove about 5000 kms chasing them to no avail.

Finally on Thurs 29th we got onto them not in huge numbers but after sweet bugger all the last 5 days it was good, tailor to 45cm dart to 1kg 1 big jewie that lived to fight another day.

The weather was to crook to go out on the overnight charter from Rainbow, we were all looking forward to fishing the shelf from Spirit Of Rainbow.

Thank god we decided to rent a house and not camp as we were going to. Great house at Happy Vally many thanks to Buck & Caroll. May-be we will get a discount next year after we helped the owners with the boxing for th carport slab ...lol... Nearly fell over when the owners said that readymix on Fraser is $375 / mtr (no wonder they are mixing it themselves)

As we were driving up the beach to the barge the sun was shining the gutters were full of fish and there were 10000 4x4's just starting their trips ...lucky buggers.
PS don't pay full price on any of the barges ...........
Green Barge $30
White Barge $20
Orange Barge $20
After a short wait and much beconing from the guy on the green barge he came over and said $15 return and he filled up quick so when the guy on the white barge came over we said $10 return or we are going to wait for the green barge he sain yep no wories. 8) I don't know if he realised we were in a group of 3 4x4's but we all got over for $10 each 4x4.

All in all not a great trip but will be back again next year 8)

Hi Craigo,

Take heaps of Grog !!!!

My boss from work got back from Fraser on Saturday. He reported the weed to be as thick as carpet. Take 5 minutes to clean it off your line every time they cast out.

Just a word of advice about the Barge.
Many years ago (back in the 80's) there was also two barge companies working from Inskip Point and involved in a price war. $5.00 was the going rate, so the other company made their price free for the trip.
Naturally everyone took the free barge and this lead to the other company going broke and out of buisness. With only one Barge and a monopoly the price steadily rose for the next 12 years and peaked at $80 - $100.
Things are good again with the price back down to $20, might be good if we can keep it that way, you know what I mean

Cheers
Craigie.

Craigie,

Couldn't agree more about the barge. As far as I'm concerned the Mata Ray (green) barge is the only one to travel on. The rest are owned by the same company/ guy which owns the Eurong resort and tourist shuttles amongst other things.

Before Manta Ray the price was $80 then $50 then $40 - this year we paid $30 when the other barges were offering $20 and $10.

If Manta Ray is forced out prices will go $10 to $20 to $40 to $50 to $80 then over $100 to compenstae for the price war of the last few years.

Go clean go green.

PS Craigo - grog is your only option my friend - every report I've heard for the last three weeks is weed, weed and more weed - my hands are still stained.

Re: Fraser 24th to 31st

Hey guys,
The weed was there but it was a bit hit and miss last week, we would catch a few then the weed would blow in and they would go off the bite.
As we were leaving on Sat 31st all the pros were travelling up the beach, so if they are going to net the weed won't be too bad you would think. >
Take heaps of grog anyway, and keep your line tight and up outa the water as much as you can and tha weed won't worry you much.

I agree with supporting the green barge. Just before may last year there was only the barge owned by Eurong resort. To get 4X4 and camper on to Fraser was going to cost $165 !!!!!

He has been putting the price up every year since he sent Gordon Elmer broke. We have been going up in May every year for the last five years. On our May 2000 trip they never even had any one to guide the vehicles on to the barge. Didn't both us so much but the first timers going on board were pretty wound up.

May 2001 saw the green barge start up with the price for 4X4 and camper down to $35!!!

Don't be fooled by the orange barge, the guy from Eurong owns that one too!!!!

SUPPORT THE GREEN BARGE!!!!

Going up in November this year. Not sure what to expect fishing wise but hopefully the weed will clear before then.

Tangled.

Pookey,
We got them at Waddy Point & Pinnicales, both times weather was bad but weed was medium. If weather is good I would expect toobe able to slay em almost everywhere.
