    fishing...

Fished the famous Spot - X again,
4 Days of wind and bad tides seen the fishing slow.

Species encounted over the trip included, Jacks - Queenfish - Trevally - Bream - Flathead #- Baracuda and Tarpon.

Travis Davies, (Motorama Springwood Marine) fished hard and sharp over these days, his Jack numbers improveing #

Best jack for Trav into the boat for the trip was 48cm he got a few of these but try as he might could not pop the 50cm #mark #

yesterday sees us again up the top of spot-x and Trav casting better than ever ( THIS FELLA CAN CAST!!)

Haveing switched to softies for the last 2 days Trav set the benchmark for Jacking so far this summer,7 Jacks hooked for the day (that's great jackin) #for only 2 boated.

    only 2 you say,
7 hooked is nothing to be sneezed at!!
considering 1 of these fish was a MONSTER!!! and the others all BIg Jack anyway we encounted one small Jack the whole trip.

    i was pleased to see
Trav at work and there's no doubting this kind of style fishing , is the reason he made it into the Queensland Team for the Bream series.
as well as finals births in the casting comp at the last 2 Brisbane Boat Shows.

we compared hard bodies against the softies, without a doubt when the fishing is slow the softies will out fish all other presentations.
with the fish not just reaction strikeing the artifical but actually eating them.

early in the piece we had trouble with jig Heads straightening out.
after switching to a stronger product this proublem was solved.

Trav fished with a Ian Miller "Beast Buster " spin rod and Tica Reel.
this outfit was up to the job, and was an outstanding outfit.

Full marks to Trav for toughing out the crapier days and sticking to the game plan.
    great company and great times.

    Re: fishing...

Well l got to Bretts secret creek and fishing was tough but l managed some nice jacks (and a few SMOKINGS )a couple of good trevs and flathead but with country like that to look at l didnt need to catch fish......

l fished the outfit Brett mentioned and the lures l used for the three days were Squidgies these things now control my fishing l had favorites well now l have new ones the squidgy fish in the colour jelly prawn in 65mm length went off they turn quiet fish into ruthless eating machines.......

l tell all Ausfish members and readers in a month or so (hopefully sooner) big brett finger will have his charter operation running up that way and he knows the water like no other, and l would highly recommed his services as a guide........

Thanks for the company Brett we will do it again soon as its under 4 hours from the gold coast, nothing at all to go and catch big JACKS.......

Ill have to give those lures ago.
Brett youll have to tell me of a good spot where I can fish of the banks for when I get to elliot heads next week
Be definately using your charters when your up and running since the inlaws live up that way.

    Re: fishing...

    Mack,
not the dogs Trav didn't use them,he was useing a single strand leader that didn't quite have the strenght.

    why use that you ask???
he ran out of heavy stuff! and all i had was single strand that was too visable in the shut-down.

it was all about presentation, the fish where very spooky and shut down.
    you needed a finer aproach.
Trav done a great job in the conditions.

    Adrian,
    mate check you private message.

    Re: fishing...

mackmauler Brett is right the place was quiet and shut down it took quality leader material such as stren megnathin in 30 Lb then back to 20 due to running out of 30lb to get these jacks to eat...Another difference with plastics is they were eating them right down so with teeth as they have again l was in trouble, the jacks l landed were lip hooked thank god And one more point is that these squidgies swim so well on the drop they more than often get hit going down so again l was on the back foot...Gotta love the way those squidgies swim...

When you work plastics as close as l was to structure there is very little room to stop them from getting home l was glad to land the jacks l did.......

4 hours easy mate but l wasnt towing......

    Re: fishing...

You never forget the ones that escape plays over and over its even worse on the quiet waters of bundy no speedboats to take the mind off it like the gold coast, least you got onto plenty, must of felt like an instant replay after a while got a score to settle there myself, 5 years since the beast stole the 2 minute old scorpion and I think of it daily I should of got counselling at the time
