    Mooloolaba tuna frenzy!

Had to get out there for a bash today and drove straight past bribie and the rain and put in at Mooloolaba, was great weather no rain, wind not to bad in the lee of the headland, and heaps of action in the bay.

Richie my deckie landed his first tuna and was in a rather excitable state all morning, between us the tally was around 30 mactuna mostly 1-2kilos and some up to 6 kilos, put a few on board for a muddie attack next week and released the rest, saw one spotty follow a lure in but no sign of any around to speak of.

How big is the commercial fleet up there! the harbour was packed with what looked like battleships, mostly longliners by the looks of it.

Hey Rob looks as if you and your deckie had some fun out there.....those macs put up a pretty good fight ah.
I caught some off the Gold Coast last year that went 6 to 7 kilos.....like you say they are great crab bait but even better when fished fresh!!
We were planning to go out today but the weather put a stop to that.
Just looked at the long range forecast for this coming weekend and it looks bloody terrible....25 to 30 knots by Sunday.
This means the next free fishing day for me will be new years day and i think a few people might have a sore head that day ..he he he.

Yeah good fun Brent, would of liked a feed though

Bloody shame with the spotties used to always be able to pick a few up trolling between the mactuna schools.

Try telling a new to fishing deckie that no we can't eat that one again

Minister where are the inshore spottie mackerel >

Made the most of the chance today, would of been pretty bad in the open bay today.

    Rob,

    Thanks for that report.

I'll avoid Mooloolaba. Those small Mac Tuna can be frustrating.

We picked up some Longtails around a Mac Tuna school a few weeks ago.

May have to wait till New Years Day before the weather clears.

Must have just missed you again Mack. After Billfishing out wide we ran into Mudjimba to look for Spotties then worked the Tuna from the Maroochy mouth to the breakwalls. Came in about 11:30. Went again this morning but just Choona Chasing. Schools were from Currimundi to Pt Cartwright. Got a Frigate and heaps of Macks. Hooked about my third Mack on fly only to be snipped off in the melee. Haven't landed one - not that I have given it much of a go but they were really up and working at various times today.

That was about the time we came in as well, Perfect timing as the first spots of rain started. The tuna were easier to catch the further we got from the harbour did you find that to? So you saw no spotties today? the report yesterday said a few at currumundi.

    Cheers

No Spots. They were definately easier further away from the Harbour.
