Finished work this arvo & took off straight out the upper Brissy River to do some exploring. Went to Savages Crossing hoping that the crowds had died down. No luck. the 2 launching spots had folks camped right on them, talk about selfish. >
So I headed to a private property where I can get in, there would be no crowds there! Didn't want to fish the usual spots that I know have been producing bass & a few saratoga so I locked the hubs in & went scrub to a spot I knew I should be able to get to, but never have by land before.
Got all the way to this great little backwater that was perfect to launch from only to find cattle had turned the bank into a mass of soft sand. Decided "what the heck" & proceeded to back the trailer down thru it.
Well I didn't even get the trailer to the water before I broke thru the harder stuff & down to the diffs I was. Low range was selected & I pushed it further back so I could get the boat off & have a fish at least & worry about getting out later. Got the boat off & decided I'd better have a go at getting it out before bending a rod & having to get it out in the dark.
I unhooked the trailer & let the ute tryes down to 18 psi & started digging sand out from underneath by hand. Got it all kinda flat & punched it thru the sand to get out with alot of swearing & back & forth work.
Now how to get the boat & trailer thru the 30 feet of soft sand?
Ah HA! Got the snatchum strap out, & put it between the trailer & ute.
Thought that would work later so I took off fishin with the remaining light after leaving it all set up to go.
Awesome coutry in this spot, probably better structure than my fav spots up the top. Water temp was good, visibility about right, yet not even a strike on anything. Tried spinners, frangers, jerks, poppers, rattlers & only saw one bass gimme half hearted follow. Getting dark so I heads back to the ute. Loaded boat onto trailer & begins skull dragging it out.
Dug a foot deep trench in the bank with the draw bar.
Got it out ok & home.
What an effort for stuff all fish. But probably the most fun I've had up there for a while. Got sand up my nose, in me eyes, my jocks are full of it, up me bum, in me hair & the boat is full of it.
I'm going back there next free day for some more fun! Will take a shovel next time.
Fitzy..
