I haven't been out in a couple of weeks so I decided to head out after work on friday night for a few hours. working shifts usually means fishing pretty strange hours - got to the ramp at 11.30pm a couple of hours before high tide. I motored out to my first spot and dumped my berley (5kg of mullet frames from the fish markets) into a keeper bag over the side. The first mini squid bait went over, pick, pick hmm this could be a grassy a bit of a run and then wrapped around the reef by a big fish, the biggest i've hooked out there i reckon. not a good start so I sent out the heavier gear with a strip of mullet while I rerigged the other rod. finally got them both in the water when the big rod goes off, pick it up, set the hook and start bringing in a nice fish when the second rod goes off as well- make the mistake of trying to hook that fish as well and lose them both in the process. After this bad start I could not get a bite for about 3 hours, moved spots 3 times before coming back to the first spot at 3.30am for a 'last cast'. To cut a long story short the next five runs resulted in 3 sweetlip at 34 - 35cm, a nice squire of 39cm and my biggest grassy yet at 42cm on 6kg. After that I called it quits to clean the boat and get some sleep before the pearl jam concert tonight. So here is the question, which other mad keen ausfisher was out on the shallows last night, vehicle is a white nissan navara trayback with ausfish stickers - I was the red cruiser two cars over from you.

Interesting night's fishing which ended on a good note. The small grassies I've caught fight hard, so the 42cm one on 6 kg must have been good.

I went out 4.00am thursday morning, could only manage a few of those blue catfish. Big enough to be fun but not the main event. As I posted elsewhere, there was an attempt to break into the Rav4 while I was out fishing, so don't leave anything of value in your car.
