    Fred,

My understanding is that they're really no good to eat.

So if Johno kept it, I'd be interested in having a look at it myself.

Purely for future diving reference purposes

Did it have a button on the front that, when you push it , plays "Take me to the River" - I have one of them at home...

You sure you havent been drinking that home brew again
Its closed season on crays at the moment, so just reported you to the QFS.
Anyway from what ive seen and heard from Jonno, he seem to be teaching the old dog a few tricks the last few trips,
wait till i take him out to Mud.
    regards

    maaaate,

yeah shocking to eat disgusting stuff wouldn't touch 'em - could be dangerous - make sure you send any you get to my home adress packed in ice & I'll dispose of them in a safe & humane manner

If that was a painted cray yummo !!! But you probably know that by now. I've never heard of any caught inside like that but salinity levels have been right up - freaky year - snapper in close - cobia near the mainland etc etc.

The closest crays we've reliably collected bubble diving are off Moreton Hutchies & the like.
I reckon the painted cray is better tasting than its much larger southern cousins but not quite as sweet as crabs - more like a bug. I'm not sure how an estuary goer would taste.

My favorite way to cook them is to cut in half length ways, clean out the crap, & sizzle on a medium heat bbq plate that been well buttered then cracked pepper on top - YEAH BABY (oops I'm drooling now).

Old buggers have told me how in the 50's they used to collect them snorkelling around Snapper Rocks & Point Lookout etc.

Whats that rocky section of North Straddie where the Caniapa Passage narrows near the point of Russell - could there be more there?
