    oil leak in Brisbane

Hi, just wondering if anyone knows about how the oil leak may affect the fishing and crabbing in the river.

    Hocus,

By all accounts the leak didn't enter the main river or any of the big creeks. It was contained in some of the drains. Given that the crabs are on the bottom and the oil is on the top maybe they won't mix.

Never know though about what is left on the mud banks at low tide. The company's going to pay for it.

    ABC NEWS 2003/03/20

"The company responsible for what's believed to be Queensland's worst oil spill may face up to one point four million dollars in fines if it's found to be negligent.

Santos will have to pay for the clean up at the Port of Brisbane after more than one point five million litres of oil spilt from a pipeline yesterday.

A spokeswoman for Environment Minister Dean Wells says an investigation by the Environmental Protection Agency will take several weeks.

She says the clean up operation may last until the weekend."

I have been down the river this morning. The creek concerned has a newly built dam at the mouth & some plastic barriers.I couldn't see any evidence of oil.
