Thread: Island of 'Wrecks' & 'Sinkings' !!!

Island of 'Wrecks' & 'Sinkings' !!!

Just spent the last 5 days based at Bulwer on Moreton Island.
Weather was a bit marginal for most of the time with plenty of heavy showers and Mod/fresh South east winds. Despite the conditions we ventured outside the house to fish the beaches for 'Bread n Buter' species.
Most of the time our efforts were concentrated around Tailor Bite/Yellowpatch, targeting Sand Whiting with worm bait. We had moderate success only scoring a few fish per session.
Also spent a bit of time 'Flicking' for 'Lizards' along the western beaches. Total catch was 12 fish with 3 of them going close to the 70 cm Maximum.

By far the best session we had was on the Ocean Beach side of the Island, working the shallow gutters for Whiting. Between the three of us we pulled 50 keepers in a two hour period, had to stop fishing due to an exhausted bait supply - Buggar !!!

Great trip, hope to get back there in October.

    Cheers
    Craig.

    Craigie,

Didn't find a plano lure box floating around with some nice Manns 10+s in it by chance. That blue pilchard is a real dynamo on the flatties.

Lifejackets, scuba gear or wallets didn't happen to pop their heads up either did they?

I thought you were telling me that worming ctaching wasn't your forte'

Nice catch though - were using using a two hook rig - and were they right in close?

Good trip by the sound of it. Looking forward to our trip over there in October. We'll have to enrol in a TAFE course on how to "pull" worms before then.

Sorry Brett, didn't find any 'Flotsom' that fits your description. Had a look down at Tangas on the Saturday Arvo.

Fish were caught on a one hook rig, we were trying to conserve bait. As Sav has mentioned, a 'Tafe' course on pulling worms would be mighty handy. I have caught the odd worm in the past but saddly I was way out of form when it counted most. I need to spend a lot more time on the beach practising the art of Beach-Worming.

The Whiting were in very close. In fact we could see them washing around as the waves trickled through the shallow gutters. Polarised Sunnies are a must when beach fishing.
If a particular gutter contained mainly smaller fish, we simply moved to one where we could see bigger fish in it.

Hope the October trip produces similar results.

    Cheers
    Craig.
