    first cobia

Took Friday off work and went up to Mooloolaba for a fish. Pity I did 'cos it looked like Sat was the better day! Anyway, landed a 7.3 kg longtail on a trolled live yakka first up, then I chased some longtails on lures for a while without any hookups. Went out to the reef and found a big bait ball. Anchored and burleyed and caught a 6.3 kg cobia on a pilchard (6 kg line) and then another estimated 10 kg+ (released) on a live yakka (8 kg line).

Nice to finally get my first cobe, but they didn't fight nearly as much as I expected, in fact I had them both to the boat within 5 minutes.

    Jeremy,

Don't be put off by the lack of fight mate. Once they start topping 15-20-30kg then you've got a whole new ball game happening.

Good eating though - nice catch
