    Mud

Luke was the deckie, his frist trip to mud, seeing as he's landbased at the moment.
Left the river around 2pm swung right and head to the south of mud, hitting 15kt s/easterly chop on the bottom of tide.
Rounded the bottom to the s/e corner only to meet 15-20kts and some ugly seas 1.2-1.5m, only 3 rigs in sight.
Drop the pick on a favourite piece of turf.
Inbetween the hanging on and trying to fish luke scored first with a nice squire, plenty of hits and runs but due to the roller coaster ride we were getting near impossible to hook anything, broke anchor once, so decided to head north to more sheltered waters.
Phil and carlos dropped passed to say a few words about the weather predictions, then anchor out wider.
Found the trench on the northern side and anchored up and set the berley going, much better seas and Luke didnt look so green (those bloody rumbo).
    baits slimies/squid/grinner
Did ok and moved in closer as the tide peaked, this is when we got the "Shock and Awe" from the wave upon wave of mossies, after two cans of bushmans, we quelled their attacks. 8)
seas started to abate by the high, or maybe it was the Rumbo's, but good evening passed and we're back at the ramp late evening.
With a decent feed of squire 35-55cm and a few grinners for the next round.
Hope you had your sea legs by today mate.
    regards

    Re: Mud

Just finished dinner of fresh squire baked and stuffed with rice, herbs and pine nuts. What a life. Yes got the cold sweats going for a while and that feeling of the body wanting to get rid of something but which way it was going to come out who knows. But all in all I didn't mention it so it didn't happen so good thing. Good trip Mr Webbo.
    Cheers Luke

    Re: Mud

    And the weather forecast is

Carlo and I found Webby and Luke, also a mate Mick & wife, Peter and Phil were also out there in Peters new rig.

The east early was washing machine stuff, so round to the west we headed. Went in close looking for sweeties and bream. Boated a couple and then, as Brian said, MOZZIES.............

Moved out over some rubble grounds ( thanks Touchy) and picked up Morwong ???

tried to have a camp, but at midnight, the glass out happened so round to the East again. Managed, stingray, wobbies, shovels and zingers on the S/E corner. Took the rig to 4ft of water and started donging Bream. Average Bream for Mud there, and all went from 30 to 35cms.

Back out to the deeper grounds at sunup as the MOZZIES set in again. Under size, Maori Cod, Estuary Cod, Squire, Trumpeter, Whiptail, Moses Perch. Legal Bream, Squire and Grassies.

Pulled the pin at 7ish, saw Wishey in the morning, and he had some nice Bream around the 44cm mark from the shallows.

Got home, couldn't sleep, even though I had no sleep the night before. There's matchsticks in the eyelids now though.

Good to see good Bream at Mud this early, all looks good for winter.

    Phill,

Thanks again for organising the trip to the DPI. I learned a lot about what they are doing. I would definitely be interested in a trip to the Bribie research centre in the future.

I saw you and Webby out around the northern side of mud on Saturday night. I was in the white tinnie with the white canopy about 150 m west of Webby at about 6 pm. I wanted to head around the south east corner but with that weather and my little tinnie I wasn't game. Interesting that you scored some decent bream already this year. I picked up a couple of nice grassies. Also got one (just) legal squire.

    Brian,

Great squire. Did you get them on the northern side?

    Regards,

    Simon

    Re: Mud

Hi Simon, Why didnt you drop over and have a rumbo
Yeah the eastern side was certainly wishy washy, we landed the first down the bottom of the banks, fun thing happened, i sent luke forward to check the anchor as we were being pushed off our mark, he just got into the cab and his rod went off.
conditions were shit to try and keep our lines out so we moved north.
Where you saw me anchored there is a trench that runs sorta from the red out to the northern cardinal.
And produces on most occassion, we were sitting on the edge fishing into it. That were the remain came from.
Plenty of rigs out near the northern cardinal.
    regards

    Re: Mud

I would have come over for a rum Brian but I was having enough trouble standing up as it was .

There sure was a few boats out by the cardinal. The Shovel Nose's were certainly in plague proportions out there. The only place that I have done any good there is where I was sitting when you were there. There seems to be a big patch of coffee rock or something just there. Jumps up from about 8m to 6m on the sounder. I'll have to keep an eye out for that trench next time.

    Cheers,

    Simon

    Hi Guys,

I had a ride in Peters new boat - beats the hell out of my 3.75 mts of Dart - only thing it doesn't have is a colour TV.

We fished the south-east corner but just not pleasant, then followed Lucky Phil around the west side up close to the shore, then fished in one of the trenches and left for home about 2.00am. We caught most types of vermin, squid, crabs and a couple of undersize squire and bream but that was it.

Anyway, always next time. Thanks Peter for taking me out and I particularly enjoyed the tiger prawns we had with dinner.

    Re: Mud

    Hi Brent,

We had live prawns as well as the usual stuff so we should have been OK on the bait front.

Do you fish at Mud at night? I would go over there in the Dart on a winter's night by myself, but would be more comfortable in company.
