    Daintree outing

My Brother, Sister in law and I went for a quick fish up the Daintree this arvo. Being able to launch the boat from the beach at Wonga only 5 kms away from the mouth allowed us to head off at such short notice. We soon filled the net up with herring and headed up to some deep areas for the run out. The neap tides allowed us to fish these areas mid tide that normally have too much current to fish. Not much was on the bite however, due to the poor tidal flow. As a last ditch effort, we fished the channel at the mouth with livies before heading home. After losing a few baits we were about to leave (honestly when my 12 lb baitcaster bent over. I quickly grabbed it and started winding the fish straight to the boat. The bro commented on how small it must be until suddenly the reel exploded just before the fish came into view. Within seconds he was then asking how much line I had left on the reel and lines and anchor started coming in. After a frantic chase to retrieve line we settled down for a 10 minute slog before bringing the fish into view. After this long a fight I figured it was a large Shovel nosed shark but suprisingly a big Queenfish loomed out of the depths. It had put up such a fight as somehow I had fowl hooked it right under the Dorsal fin just like the bait it had taken It took a further 5 minutes to land it by having my brother beach the boat and tail grab it in waist deep water as in the deep I simply could not turn it's head up to the surface. It went just over 6.2 Kilo 8) Not a bad arvo up the Daintree Will post a photo soon.

    God Going,
i have had some insane sessions in the Daintree, most memorable was an arvo jaunt to the crossing, shot out towards the mouth and fished the drop-off around the mud islands/breakthroughs.
we boated 7 nice Barra all going over the meter mark, real good fun for such a short drive from Cairns.

Isn't that always the way, just when you are tired, hungry, cramped, bit seasick and sunburnt and have decided to head home someone hooks the best fish of the trip . Where's that photo? Nqcairns
