Hurricane straddie
This post is a bit delayed because I came back to work yesterday and it felt like the world had fallen on my head. Everything that could go wrong had gone wrong in the last four day's of my absence and I was deemed as the only person who could sort it out. ???. Should have never come back.
The ABC Ex-Hacks and Has-Beens Tailor Preservation society lived up to its name by taking only two of the much loved fish from the beloved North Straddie in the annual four day pilgrimage. Despite the best efforts and intentions of all concerned the pull of the lovely amber liquid, green liquid, red liquid, black liquid, brown liquid (there were lots of colours and that was on the way down) was too much to fight the gale force fishing conditions confronting anglers.
Arrived late Friday for a rainy night but with conditions fining off for Saturday with winds about 15-20. Gutters on main holding no Tailor so headed to the Pin to ride out the high tide. Found the Pin structure had changed dramatically. There's no real corner anymore and you can no longer reach the main channel from the beach. There's a massive lagoon and you can only reach the outside island at low tide. Still can't make the deep water from its edge. Two tailor, few whiting and dart landed for the few hours there.
Sunday up early for a whiting session on main beach. Landed about 30 including my 38 cm elbow slapper before exactly 9:03am when the fans switched from brisk to cyclonic. Literally in a 3 minute period we were fishing for whiting calmly and thern suddenly you couldn't cast against the wind let alone stay in the water.
Tried on Main beach for Jew that night which was a real joke. Some of the waves were reaching the dunes at low tide. White water stretched back about 500m from shore.
Did a quick trip to the trees at the pin on Monday arvo for three flathead. My biggest going 63cm. One of the other guys landed 4 big dart in the new bay after the trees towards the sea.
As fishing goes - very quite - weather was probably the worst I've seen. Still had a bloody ball and we're contemplating another trip in Jue/July because we enjoyed it so much.
We're a funny bunch

Would you beleive we took the ski last year and launched her straight of the beach. Got in the way of fishing and drinking last year.
Would have been too scared to blast through the break this year
