A few whales, strong current and good weather

Went out by myself this morning after 2 nameless deckies had a no show, it was good to be out there, the sea was flat and I saw some whales up close, one jumped within 15m of the boat, very impressive sight.

Went straight out to the 100m line and searched for fish, the current was not behaving, with no wind 6km an hour on the gps was the drift rate, after lining up a few fish on the sounder and calculating the drift I dropped, got a nice squobby snapper, after a few more goes and fighting fish and current I had a feed so left that hard work and went in closer, the best fish in closer was a striped sea pearch about 1 kilo but made the esky look colourful at least, plenty of weird stuff around the 20m mark at straddy.

A few lost rigs later I had an encounter with a 4/0 mustad demon (circle hook) somehow not my fault of course I got one right through the second finger, normal hook out methods don't work with these, they lock in, it had to be "twisted out" now I know why fish play up sometimes

    cheers

    OUCH....

fished hutchies this morning for a feed of squire...
quietened down so moved neer brennans.....very little current, set a berley trail and floated the baits down and lost nine good fish....4 bite offs and the other 5 pulled hooks... [smiley=hammer.gif] [smiley=furious2.gif] [smiley=wut.gif] think i should have gone with larger hooks

we had a great berley trail, we could see snapper within a couple of metres from the boat, but it was at the end of the day and no fresh bait left.

the best hits came when floating yellowtail pike heads in the trail........allways next time

Yeh its a shame ya deckies let u down, but I hear one has done this twice now, shame, shame, shame, tide waits for no man, and i would be considering seriously if you would let this bloke back in the boat eh... but then he says he is good luck is this true, mack ???

One of em was not in fit state to board the boat and the other one must be hiding a good reason to stay in bed, Im sure the truth will come out at the m@g and i wager it looks like betty doesn't worry me, the departure time just got 30min earlier, that will sort the men from the boys, geez i love winter 8)

Hi Rob....That deckie in question was so upset he missed an offshore trip...he told me he punched a hole through the wall when he found out he had slept through his alarm(hope he was only joking)
These young fellows think they can stay up half the night and then wake up 3 hours latter.........BETTER GO TO BED EARLIER NEXT TIME J$#K.....Picked up the new rig today Rob so when you have time maybe you could give me a lesson or 2 on taking on a bar crossing
    Cheers Brent
