one of the best results of goldcoast bream comp

l was lucky enough to fish as a non boater in the abt bream comp on the weekend .it was my first experience with competition fishing and and so l didnt know what to expect , it turned out to be a fantastic weekend .
there were 56 boats in the comp most decked out with the latest fishing gear it made for a great site to see all the boats racing away for the days fishing , the comp is a two day strictly lure fishing with only the best five fish each day counting . most of the anglers fished the nerang river ,the rest were spread out from southport to the pin . over the two days 400 plus fish were caught weighed and released , the biggest bream weighed just over 1 kg the biggest one day total was 3.2 kg the winning two day total was 6.1 kg . l managed to draw two good boaters who put me on to good fish and taught me some of the finer points to fishing soft plastics ,
most of the guys in the comp were freindly and only to willing to help new comers like myself . the organisers steve morgan and steve booth did a fantastic job .l would recommed this comp to anyone thinking of giving competition fishing ago
my new ausfish cap arrived in time for me to wear it to the comp ,best cap at the comp

I take it that you were number 3, a bloody fantastic effort considering the size of the field and it being your first comp. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]
Ive been thinking about having a go in both the bream and bass comps, after your glowing report it might stir me up to have a go in the next round or so.

Spike excellent effort, i hope you can pass on a few tips in time how is the boat traffic in nerang these days? were the fish in the canals or the main river? cheers Rob

hi rob most of the guys fished the canals and did catch fish but they had to fish really hard and not to many got five fish each day . there were a couple who fished the main river in the deeper holes and these were the guys that got the better fish . my first day l fished the pin area using atomics and sqidgies on 2 kg fire line , using the sounder to find the gutters along the banks . second day we fished the deeper sections of the nerang with heavier lead heads and bigger plastics because of the current one hole produced three of my fish
like l said the comp was really good fun and the quickest way to improove my fishing , probably the best 50 bucks ive ever spent
