The oc was on the water at 415 this morning and riding the calm ocean before sunrise, destination.. cathedrels, as we arrived on sunrise a mass of sauries were sheeting with hundreds of mahi mahi ripping into them, the current was running at 3kts southbound water temp 23.6c, the rods were loaded and the action began within seconds, in 2 hours 25 dolphin were landed with 3 over 1 meter.
With no end in sight to the bite it was time to try for bottom fish, the northern reef area had good fish showing in the 3 pinnacles area, 3 drifts had pearlies, parrot and squire aboard, then the westerly hit.. a lot of water came aboard while making a hasty retreat.
Back in the shelter of the lookout and after spending some time watching whales jumping, we tried jigging under the cliffs for tailor and got onto some yellow tail king, pulling 5 kilo king on 6 kilo line from there home turf is pure adrenalin and finished off a top day.
cheers
Yeah crownie, rather happy and the beer tasted good at the end of it
Jack, you should of come but your not a morning fisherman hey
Steve, it was a great day and yes the wind did put a dampener on the fun literally. Rain coats came out and took it steady at about 7 knots, id guess 200litres came into the boat but it self drains as it goes so not much can go wrong. Cleaned the boat anyway, it was a mess
cheers
