Kawana Update
Spent a lot of time across the weekend chasing the tailor again. Fished the Kawana stretch to no avail. You really have to use your imagination to find a gutter or hole. The formations aren't that crash.
I also decided to do some spinning of Point Arkwright first thing in the morning on the high tide, just to make life interesting. I then did some spinning on the change of tide in the middle of the day. I had the halcos and raiders from 30 gram to 85 gram, and even tried a popper for a while. All I got was wet. One of the mornings a guy fishing beside me gave me a live gar, so I set him up on my heaver outfit. The gar swum around serenely for the session, not a care in the world, apart from the body piercing.
On the high tide I did notice some nice bream hanging around very close to the rocks.
I went for a fish up to mudgimba beach chasing the tailor, then the jew. The gutter formations are a lot better up there. As I arrived the pros were leaving, which left me wondering whether it was worth my while. Anyhow it was a nice night, so I fished on. The gutter I picked was shared by a two other tailor fishermen and two bream fishermen. It was nice a deep and really looked the goods. Not one of us saw any action at all across the sunset. I stayed on and changed to the jew outfit loaded with a slab of bonito. It was that quiet I fished with the tailor outfit as well, only loosing a couple of tails for the night. The heavy gear went off once, and after 15 minutes of fun I landed an extra oversize shovel nose shark. Excellent. I think that is about the 5th one I have caught in two weeks. Add that to the little stringray and a grinner, youve gotta be happy with that
Anybody else in the area had any better luck than this??

Re: Kawana Update
Hi Gav,
Na dry for me as well, got a few nice whiting out of a whole at Wurtulla, the other arvo/eve. Old man is heading up this week and we are going to try the wash around the rocky areas of Caloundra, a mate of mine picked up a nice mixed bag there the other night. The old man is from ballina and fishes the beaches there often. He reckons alot of the big runs of GreeBacks have passed through there, and should definetely be close to this area. reports up the coast seem to indicate so.
I''ll let ya know how we go.
Cheers

Re: Kawana Update
I've had some luck fishing Teewah lately but haven't been chasing tailor much. Been there 4 times in the last 2 months but the fish (dart, whiting, tarwhine) seem to be getting harder to find. Always seem to end up with one really nice tarwhine though ... Probably chase tailor properly next trip.
Having fished Mudjimba many times over the last couple of years I'd say the extra effort to get up to Teewah is well worth it.
Certainly be interested in any news on Peregian and also Narrowneck/The Spit down south.

Re: Kawana Update
Lachie, I have no idea how perigian is fishin, the way its going I might be taken Chisel's advice and stretching the wings a bit. I have always been keen to fish off the coolum rocks for a night time session.
I'm going to try and get down thurs and or fri night for another go. I'll keep ya updated, no matter how bad the news is.
