G,Day
On account of the last ABC Hacks and Hasbeens Tailor Preservation Society annual Straddie migration being blown out by Huey >a follow up visit was in order.
All the boys left on Monday morning and will return Saturday morning but alas some of us have to work and I went over Monday night and returned last night. (I WANT TO BE RETIRED) [smiley=bigcry.gif]
Arrived at main beach at 7:40pm to be greeted by a 2.57 metre high and 20-30 knot south easters blowing the waves right up to the dunes. Undeterred and armed with 6 beers under my belt (it's a long ferry trip) and the ever trusty Landy in low difflock headed south the 7.7km to camp. Couple of exciting and wet kilometres later arrived safely to allow the turbo to cool down for half an hour [smiley=2thumbsup.gif].
Lots of drinks - as normal - until around 12,1,2....am who knows woke up under the main tarp in my sleeping bag at 6:00am and went for a fish. Tried some gutters north of us for Bream using mullet flesh. Windy and rough and struggled for two 29cms breambos in about and hour then went back to camp.
After breaky headed to the pin where we got to see the netters shoot the lagoon for a mixed bag of big mullet, massive whiting, big bream, squid, calamari and the odd tailor. Broke my heart. [smiley=bigcry.gif] [smiley=bigcry.gif] but it's their living. Lots of small whiting and bream for us throughout the day but nothing a standout (if legal). Had an late afternoon snack on the beach before rigging for Tailor on dusk. Hard to fish into the wind but I managed 1 49cm specimen until 7:00pm when we gave it up as a bad joke and headed back to camp.
Wednesday - much better conditions at about 5-10 knots and seas under half a metre and got better as the day progressed. Headed north to fish the deep gutters/holes south of Pt Lookout. Good quality bream to about 36-38cm and some good 32-34cm whiting. Numbers weren't high and the bites were very subtle which was too much for some of the crew - especially the older and newer members. Best bait was pippis funnily enough. I was sweetening mine with a bit of sandworm on the top of the hook and up the line which was encouraging better bites. After 2-4 fish was pulled out of the gutter it shut down and we'd have to move to the next one. It was quite funny actually.
I cleaned my catch - attached photo - at 3:00pm and headed back on the 4:30pm barge. There was no wind, bright sunshine and beautiful clear water. WHAT THE HELL WAS I DOING [smiley=bigcry.gif] [smiley=bigcry.gif].
Boys are still there - fishing and drinking in the beautiful weather - while I'm here dealing with all this shit that's fallen on my work desk in the two days of I''ve had off. >>
