G'day everyone.
Boredom overtook me this afternoon so I hought I'd go for a drive looking for somewhere new to fish.. Put the rod in the car and half a bag of prawns that were leftover from last trip.
Ended up fishing in the river, looking over towards RQ, adjacent to the Gateway Bridge.
My expectations were fairly low having not fished there before and the fact I was not using fresh bait.
I managed to catch two bream, one of which would have been about legal size (although I didn't measure it before putting it back). Personally, I would be reluctant to eat anything caught in the Brissie river. Both fish looked healthy however the larger fish had a muddy sort of smell to it.
Does anyone have any experience/opinions about eating fish from this part of the river?

I wouldn't eat the bream, they spend a fair bit of their life cycle in the river, same as the catfish. I might be game to eat any whiting taken out of the river, but still, I'd need to be telling myself it was caught elsewhere....Might have to try that area sometime.

Caught a few bream n whiting round that reach a while ago and gave em to my gran.She said they were beautiful to eat and she's still alive and kicking so it couldn't have been to bad.

I'll keep that spot strictly for fun, not for catching a feed.
BTW there were a fair number of small crabs on the bank. Might take my yabby pump next time and see if there is any fresh bait about.
