Coffs Harbour - 19 Oct
Hi all,
Spent a VERY windy weekend in Coffs trying to catch a few fish. Early Sunday morning we managed a few whiting on nippers (one legal but went back anyway).....and I managed to catch my first flathead on fly. These were caught near the bottom of the tide at the lower end of Bonville Ck on the flats.........the flatty was a monster of about 25cm but hey, I was still smiling!
Later that day we went and caught a few baitfish (Yellowtail and herring) off the wooden jetty in Coffs. The wind was blowing so hard I thought I was going to get launched a couple of times, but we still managed to pull enough up with the bait jigs (as well as quite a few dart - are these worth keeping?) to give us a start on the jew.
Went down to a beach just North of Coffs (somewhere between Diggers and Sapphire - you'll have to ask my mate that one!) and soaked a few baits for Jewie. My mate managed two schoolies on fresh squid brought from the co-op, another female friend caught her first fish off the beach and got teased the rest of the night for making it a shovel-nose shark! - also on squid.......and I caught nothing!!!
It seemed that the squid was the go as I stuck to livies all night and didn't get a touch........on the other hand I chose a shocking weekend for tides (we ended up fishing the dropping tide from about mid through to dead low) and so our gutters virtually disappeared about an hour or so after dark.
Still, an enjoyable weekend from where I was standing....
Cheers,
Finnie
