    Richmond Rv Jewies on plastic!

Fished the North wall of the Richmond River in Ballina last week and nailed a couple of jewies. They went 4 and 12lb, great fun on 4lb bream gear. Mate also got one 6lb. Got them using 5inch squidgy's on 1/4 ounce jigheads. dead tide, on dusk.

Ventured a little upstream to Emigrant Creek the next morning and caught plenty of Bream, biggest went 32 to the fork, caught them on dropshots and craws, 1/16 jigheads. They love the ASS drains!

    Matty_M,
The tide you got the jewies on at Ballina, was it dead low or either of the turns? Read the fishingmonthly website fishing report for Ballina and they said they were getting schoolies near the RSL club as well.
In case you like bass fishing, my brother and a mate walked up into the top end of Emigrant Creek last week and pulled plenty. Not sure if he was using fly or hardbodies sorry (he fishes both); guess you would get them on frangers as well. Creek level is very low due to the lack of rain but said they pulled 6 out of one hole that looked like an oversized hot tub. (might have caught one or too twice - not sure )
If I'm not asking too much, what and where are the ASS drains you mentioned at Emigrant? Actually, if you could answer the what, I could work out the where.
My bro also mention that another mate went up to the top end of north creek (closer to Lennox than he was to Ballina). Was very shallow and you would have to be getting out and dragging a tinnie often - better in a canoe or surf ski. Said he saw 5 good sized, recent, jewie frames left up there by someone that has obviously been eating well for the last week or so. Might be another option for you.
    Cheers,
    Jeff

    G'Day Jeff,

Just before dead low and dead low , the fact there was no run on dark was fairly important, more so than the tide, so that they can come out of the hiding spots in the many holes in the rock walls. Mate got one the other day on a drop shot in front of the porpose wall, well into the run out. They always seem to be catching them behind the RSL, I've had no such luck.
I Have fished right up the top of emigrant where it is 100% fresh, and only small rock pools, lots of small rat bass. Do you no if your brother fished the brackish parts of emigrant, its tidal up until the bridge near teven, there are also EP's up there, has he got any of them?

If you put your boat in at the caravan park and work your way up-stream you can't miss them, there just the cane farm drains, start of the run out is best, the bream seem to love these drains, also there is a good natural drain about 2 kms up stream past the hwy bridge that drains the floodplains on the run out which is a great little spot, when you see the casurina's in the middle of the creek your there. The Hwy bridge is also a good spot to start.
I have fished up north crk a little, but thought it would be to shallow for jewies, maybe not hey!
    Cheers Matt.

    Matt,
    Thanks for the info.
I'll check with the bro again to find out where he was fishing. He may have been up the top end just having a bit of fun with the rat bass. I'm pretty sure he didn't mention any perch.
    Cheers,
    Jeff
